Friday writing prompt
Hello, writers!
I’m still resting and catching up after a super busy July, but I’m determined to get a writing prompt up for us today, to get back on our Friday prompt / Monday share schedule. I am also meeting with my team next week to talk about a potential writing workshop for this fall, so let me know if that’s something you might be interested in! You can read more about the workshops here.
For today’s prompt, I have an oldie but goodie: If you were given three wishes, what would they be? The only rule is that you can’t wish for more wishes, so make these three count. And it’s possible that the genie offering them to you might take you very literally, or even try to trick you, so be as clear and specific as possible about what you’re asking for.
You can write this as a personal essay / journal entry or as a short story, and feel free to make it funny or scary or profound—whichever direction you’d like to take it. Maybe, like the old story, everything you wish for backfires and you end up back where you started but with more gratitude for the little you have. Maybe you use your wishes to secretly help others while living a humble life yourself. Maybe you wish a certain person had never existed, and find out how different the whole world would be without them. Maybe you wish for money, or a new figure, or for true love.
Okay, writers, have fun writing! I’ll see you all back here on Monday when we’ll share what we’ve written and give each other (supportive, encouraging) feedback.
